FOR DRIVERS OF CAREGIVER INTENSITY

    • THE DETROIT AREA AGENCY ON AGING CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM: serving the 1-A Region, the Caregiver Support Program provides caregiver respite for those who qualify for services.

    • AGEWAYS CAREGIVER RESPITE VOUCHER PROGRAM: gives eligible caregivers up to $575 to spend on respite care. Can use a professional caregiver or pay a family member, neighbor, or friend. Eligible caregivers provide unpaid care for someone 60 or older, at least 2 hours a week. Professional referral required. Must live in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair.

    • JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM: offers free support to anyone in the service area, regardless of faith. Provides a short-term respite program, classes on resilience and burnout, and more.     • DETROIT FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT CENTER: offers free, one-on-one professional counseling assistance with money management, budgeting, reducing debt, establishing and improving credit, connecting to safe and affordable banking services, building savings, and referrals to other services and organizations.

    • DOLLAR FOR: a program that helps you apply for free or reduced cost hospital programs that help eliminate medical expenses.

    • MICHIGAN BRIDGES: a one-stop-shop website through the State of Michigan that allows you to apply for healthcare benefits, food assistance, help paying for childcare and other benefits you or a loved one may qualify for. Also offers a helpline and assistance finding community partner organizations near you that can assist with navigating the benefits application as well as internet access.

    • ELDER LAW OF MICHIGAN: with one call connect with pension, nutrition, and benefits access counseling. Elder Law of Michigan helps people solve problems, protect their rights, and work to ensure that their basic needs are met. Most services are free of charge.

    • NEIGHBORHOOD LEGAL SERVICES OF MICHIGAN ELDER LAW & ADVOCACY CENTER: provides civil legal services to those age 60+ living in Wayne County. Staff also partner with community centers, senior housing programs, long-term care facilities, and others to provide legal education and elder abuse prevention training to older adults and caregivers.

    • TALK EARLY TALK OFTEN: provides resources includes conversation guides for partnering with older adults around their end of life planning. Also includes tools for managing family dynamics around caregiving for an aging loved one.

    • BRIDGING COMMUNITIES: BCI provides services to any person 60 years or greater who resides in the following zip codes: 48204, 48206, 48208, 48209, 48210, 48216, 48217, and 48238. Services include comprehensive case management, resource referrals, Medicare and Medicaid counseling, food support, and more.

    • HENRY FORD C.A.R.E. PROGRAM: provides caregiver classes for a variety of topics including things like advanced directives, mindfulness, dementia education and more. Also offers in-person and virtual support groups for caregivers 18+ in age.

    • AGEWAYS SUPPORT LINE: available M-F, 8 am to 5 pm at (800) 852-7795. Gives older adults and their families a place to turn when they have questions or need to find resources to help a senior or person with a disability living in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair or Washtenaw counties.

    • ELDERCARE LOCATOR: connects older Americans and their caregivers with trustworthy local support resources including services like meals, home care or transportation, or a help finding services so the caregiver can take break.

    • 988 LIFELINE: provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones via phone, text, and online chat.

    • JFS OF METRO DETROIT COUNSELING SERVICES: offers support through life transitions such as marriage, divorce, parenthood, career change, aging and more. Can bill insurance for those who have it and offer a sliding scale fee for those who qualify.

    • FAMS PROGRAM FOR CAREGIVERS: offered through Wayne State University, provides free online training classes on things like care managements, fall prevention and safety, stress management, and more.

    • POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS: offers free in-person or virtual classes where you will learn about managing your stress, improving confidence, time management and problem solving, better communicating your feelings, making tough decisions, and more. Classes are provided for caregivers of adults with chronic conditions, and for caregivers of children with special health or behavioral needs.

    • TRUALTA: provides quick, expert answers to the everyday challenges as a caregiver including things like preventing falls, managing challenging behaviors during cognitive decline, and more.     • MI DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES CASH ASSISTANCE: provides cash to qualifying individuals and families through different programs. Apply at the link above. Eligibility requirements can include: having a child in your household that is under the age of 18, or 18 years old and attending high school, you are pregnant, 65+ in ages or disabled or caring for someone with a disability in your home, or you are receiving disability benefits and caring for someone under 18.

    • LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP): provides federally funded assistance to reduce the costs associated with home energy bills.

    • MICHIGAN 211: provides help finding the help you need right in your community. Includes help with food, housing, paying bills, support in a family crisis or community disaster. Available by phone, text or online chat.

    • OPERATION HOME FRONT FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: for military and Veteran families, this program offers financial assistance on a case-by-case basis for help with things like rent, utilities, vehicle payments, groceries, clothing and travel expenses to and from major medical facilities.

    • MEALS ON WHEELS: delivers hot meals to homebound seniors on a sliding scale fee. Enter your zip code to find the location that serves your area. Must apply for services.

    • M-RELIEF: a non-profit that helps you see if you qualify for SNAP/Food Stamp benefits, then helps you apply.

    • MICHIGAN 211: provides help finding the help you need right in your community. Includes help with food, housing, paying bills, support in a family crisis or community disaster. Available by phone, text or online chat.

    • LIGHTHOUSE FOOD PROGRAM: provides emergency help with food through food pantries and home delivery service. Locations primarily in Oakland County.

    • CAPUCHIN SOUP KITCHEN: Need food now? This non-profit has two meal program sites (Meldrum Kitchen and Conner Kitchen) serving three daily sit-down and take-away meals, six days per week. There is also an emergency food pantry at the Capuchin Service Center.

    • CAM DETROIT: offers services to those who don’t have a place to sleep tonight, pointing people to emergency shelter and homeless services as resources become available. Serves Detroit, Highland Park & Hamtramck.

    • LIGHTHOUSE EMERGENCY SHELTER AND EVICTION PROTECTION: provides up to 90 days of emergency housing for families with children experiencing homelessness (background check required), and offers a free in-person and virtual clinic on housing services including topics like mediation, legal advice, information on programs and resources, and more.

    • MICHIGAN 211: provides help finding the help you need right in your community. Includes help with food, housing, paying bills, support in a family crisis or community disaster. Available by phone, text or online chat.

    • MERCY MEDICAL ANGELS: provides transportation for non-emergency medical treatment more than 50 miles away from your home for eligible patients. Gas cards may also be provided to qualifying individuals for local medical treatment.

    • MY RIDE 2: helps seniors and adults with disabilities in Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties in Michigan find transportation.

    • HUDA CLINIC: provides free primary care, dental care, mental health services, vision care, and specialty care for people who are uninsured and underinsured. Available in two locations.

    • FCOMI: offers a list of free or lost cost medical and dental providers in your area.

    • MATRIX HUMAN SERVICES: offers a free online high school diploma program for those ages 18+ in a self-paced program.

    • CHILD DEVELOPMENT & CARE THROUGH MI DHHS: provides help paying for childcare for qualifying families with low income. Apply at the link above.

    • CONNECT 4 CARE KIDS: a tool for finding childcare for children under 5 and childcare assistance in Wayne County.

    • YMCA OF METRO DETROIT: partners with schools in Southeastern Michigan to provides after school care directly at the school, based on the school calendar, and at the Y on days that school is canceled or out. Fees apply based on individual circumstances.
